Bringing You Back to Hualien
Hualien City has undergone changes throughout history and has become an important city in eastern Taiwan. Different waves of immigration have contributed to the city's development, including those seeking a new home or helping their colonizing mother country govern, conquer, and educate surrounding communities. Some came to dedicate their youth and even their lives to this place, while others gradually became a part of Hualien's citizenry as "strangers-turned-locals." Since ancient times, this city has carried the memories of its citizens' beauty and sorrow. Today, Hualien City remains the most prosperous area within Hualien County.
Behind every old photograph is a piece of history that can supplement or correct documentation. In modern times, photography and videography have become easy and inexpensive ways to document things using smartphones, tablets, and digital cameras. But in the past, photography was an expensive and difficult task.
Old photographs allow us to save images of the past and to understand and reconstruct historical events.
